Newest Gaffney ALMC Member Takes 1st in Class on Second Attempt in Cookstown A29 Targa Rally

Amie Gaffney the third generation of Gaffneys to catch the rally bug and was out last weekend Navigating on the A29 Targa Rally driven by her Dad Glyn. This was Amie’s second crack at it after travelling up last year to compete in her first rally aged 12 and a few weeks (as navigators in the north can start at 12) .

Last year went well and the crew made it round in 47th O/A and 5th in class.

This year same as last year she would be competing against the Grandad (Ted Gaffney) with William Kelly (Sitting in For Karen Gaffney) on the notes.

The day started clear enough but soon the wet weather set in and after the first 3 selectives with no penalties on very slippy circumstances and with many other crews having difficulties the pair felt things were going ok.

The second loop went well again and with Amie’s crystal clear calls and enthusiasm the pair shaved off another few seconds from the previous loop and were up to 20th O/A . The only faults of the day remained with Glyn dropping 17 seconds on one test and then again on the next run on the same test failing to stop astride a line but thankfully the selective was later scrubbed due to a timing fault.

At the end of the day and after another professionally run rally by Cookstown Motor Club the pair finished in 25th Overall and 1st in the Novice Front Wheel Drive Class, and if that wasn’t enough the Dublin crew of Mark Walsh and Linda Dempsey only went and came 17th O/A and 1st in the Novice Rear Wheel Drive class.

Dermot Carnegie and Mark Fitzsimon 14thO/A and 7th in Class

James Mansfield and Tim Canniffe 24th O/A and 2nd in Class

Ted Gaffney and William Kelly 37thO/A and 4th in Class

Matthew Walsh and Helen Caulfield 34thO/A and 9th in Class

Peter Faulkner and Anne Smyth 41stO/A and 8th in Class.

Declan Furlong and Derek Beglan 46thO/A and 7th in Class.

Well done to everyone and to the Overall Winners Eric Patterson and Raymond Donaldson who didn’t put a foot wrong, winning the event by 10 Seconds from Trevor Ferguson and David McElroy.

October Meeting

A very important Club Meeting will take place this Wednesday 11th October at the Castle Arch Hotel in Trim at 8:15 SHARP.

The main issue on the Agenda will concern the latest letter received from Motorsport Ireland concerning Event Insurance for 2018, which fundementally affects Motorsport in 2018 and into the future.

This affects Club members at all levels including Competitors so the Directors would ask that if you can make it to this months meeting at all, please do so, to allow yourself to be informed of what is planned for 2018 in our sport.

Great Class win for Martin in Sligo

Congratulations go to Club member Martin Geraghty and co-driver Conall Doherty on a great Class 1 win and 41st overall finish at the Sligo Stages Rally on Sunday. Well done to the team on another great result!

Welcome to the Web Site for ALMC Motor Club

Hello and welcome to the ALMC Motor Club's online presence.

Our Club is formed from members who are from Dublin, Meath, Westmeath, Kildare, Fingal, Louth and other surrounding areas and we meet once a month in the Castle Arch Hotel, Trim.

The Club runs the following competitive events annually: The ALMC Endurance Trial in February and the ALMC Stages Rally in July .

We are always looking for new Motor sport enthusiasts to join the club so any membership enquiries can be made to Club Secretary, Louise Conaghy on 087-060 6614.
